This high-end highlighter really misses the mark

I am really sad to admit defeat with any product, but especially one with packaging this cute. I purchased the Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter awhile back without doing any research and unfortunately for me, it doesn’t end in a love story. Let me tell you a bit about this high-end highlighter that really misses the mark.

I popped it on my cheekbones for the first time with high hopes but straight away noticed the formula was pretty powder-y and the colour wasn’t giving me the WOW factor. The product didn’t give off any glitter, it wasn’t glowy and didn’t have any shine to it. Instead, it looked like a chunky white cast and for the price point ($48 from Mecca), I wasn’t thrilled.

I wasn’t ready to give up, so I tried to make better friends with it over time. I tried layering it with other powder highlights, which did make it pop a little more. I also layered it on top of a cream highlight which worked well. However my everyday makeup routine is designed to be as quick and minimal as possible, so multiple layers of product and the extra steps don’t tend to make the cut. Plus, I personally don’t feel you should have to work that hard at a higher end product.

So it took a backseat in my collection and eventually cracked because it had gotten so old. I hadn’t been willing to part with it because I had used so little of the product and I was determined I could find a way to make it work. However yesterday I had decided it was time to let it go when I noticed it has a mirror in the compact. So I emptied the product into the bin and cleaned the compact up and have now repurposed it into a compact mirror for my beach bag! So it’s not all bad news here.

I love Too Faced as a brand, they have beautiful foundations, concealers and especially eye shadow palettes. However I do think there are other highlighters on the market at the same price point which are better value for your money.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post, this high-end highlighter really misses the mark!

Until next time,

Melissa Jayne
